Formal FAQs

Purpose of the Holland Homeschool Events Formal

The Holland Homeschool Events Spring Formal is designed to provide homeschooled high school students with a memorable evening of fellowship, music, and celebration in a setting that reflects Christian values, modesty, and respectful conduct.

Our goal is to create an enjoyable and well-ordered event where students can gather together, celebrate the school year, and honor the Lord through their character, attire, and behavior.

The guidelines and policies for the Formal exist to ensure that the evening remains safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone who attends.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: Who is eligible to attend the HHE Spring Formal?

Answer:

The Formal is open to homeschooled high school students in grades 9–12 who are between the ages of 14–19.

Students must meet both of these requirements.

Guests may attend only as the guest of an eligible homeschool high school student and must also be high school age (14–19).

Question 2: Can my homeschooled 8th grader attend if they are doing 9th grade (or higher) level work?

Answer:

No.

Students must be officially in grades 9–12 and between 14–19 years of age to attend the Formal. Coursework level or advanced academic work does not qualify a younger student to attend.

The Formal is specifically designed for high school students, and this policy is applied consistently to ensure fairness for all attendees.

Question 3: What is considered a senior for ticket purchasing?

Answer:

A senior is defined as a student who is graduating during the current academic year.

The senior priority ticket window exists so graduating seniors have the first opportunity to attend what will be their final homeschool high school formal.

During the senior priority window, only graduating seniors may purchase tickets.

These tickets are a portion of the total tickets.

Question 4: Can a senior bring a date?

Answer:

Yes.

Dates may attend as guests of an eligible homeschool student provided they are high school age (14–19).

Because senior tickets are reserved for seniors only during the priority window, dates and other students may purchase tickets when general ticket sales open the following day.

All attendees must have their own valid ticket to enter.

Question 5: When do tickets go on sale?

Answer:

Tickets go on sale March 11.

Graduating seniors receive priority access to purchase tickets first.

General ticket sales open the following day.

Tickets historically sell out quickly, so families are encouraged to plan ahead.

Question 6: Are tickets refundable?

Answer:

No. Tickets are non-refundable.

Tickets must be presented at the event either digitally on a phone or printed.

Question 7: Can tickets be transferred to another student?

Answer:

Tickets are issued to the registered student name and may not be transferred without approval from HHE.

Question 8: What happens if tickets sell out?

Answer:

Once tickets sell out, a waitlist will open. If tickets become available, they may be offered to families on the waitlist.

Question 9: Do you offer gluten-free, dairy-free, or allergy-friendly options?

Answer:

Yes.

If your student has dietary restrictions, please indicate this when purchasing tickets so we can make appropriate accommodations.

Question 10: What is the dress code?

Answer:

This is a formal event, and attire should reflect modesty, dignity, and respect for the occasion.

Young Men

• Dress suit or dress jacket

• Dress shirt

• Dress tie

• Dress shoes

Young Ladies

• Modest formal dresses

• No shorter than four (4) inches above the knee

• No exposed midriffs

• No see-through clothing

• No slits above mid-thigh

• No extremely tight or extremely low-cut dresses

If there is uncertainty about whether a dress meets the guidelines, families are encouraged to contact HHE before the event.

Question 11: Can I submit my dress for approval before the event?

Answer:

Yes.

Students may submit a photo of their dress to HHE prior to the Formal if they are unsure whether it meets the guidelines. This helps prevent the possibility of being asked to change clothing at the door.

Question 12: What happens if a student arrives wearing clothing that does not meet the dress code?

Answer:

Students who arrive in attire deemed inappropriate may be asked to leave and change before entering the event.

If the student does not return in appropriate attire, no refund will be issued.

Question 13: What type of music and dancing will there be?

Answer:

The evening will include a mix of positive and Christian music.

Dancing is allowed but must remain respectful and appropriate.

There will be no slow dancing.

Students are expected to maintain appropriate physical boundaries while dancing.

Question 14: What behavior is expected at the Formal?

Answer:

Students are expected to demonstrate Christ-like character in their speech, behavior, and interactions with others.

The following behaviors are prohibited:

• Alcohol, marijuana, or illegal drugs

• Smoking, vaping, or tobacco use

• Bullying or harassment

• Fighting or aggressive behavior

• Theft or damage to property

• Weapons

• Any form of indecency

The Formal will be well-chaperoned to ensure a safe and enjoyable evening for all attendees.

Students who violate these rules may be denied entry or asked to leave, and parents may be contacted.

Question 15: Can students leave the Formal and return later?

Answer:

No.

Students who leave the Formal early may not re-enter the event.

Parents may be notified if a student leaves before the event ends.

Question 16: Can parents stay during the Formal?

Answer:

No.

The Formal is a student event with designated chaperones, and parents are not permitted to stay during the dance.

Parents are welcome to take photos during drop-off if they wish. Photographers will also be capturing photos throughout the evening.

Question 17: Can I volunteer?

Answer:

We currently have enough volunteers for this year’s Formal.

If you are interested in volunteering for future events, please contact Heather Cerbins.

Question 18: What if a student arrives with someone who does not have a ticket?
